April 1, 2007 – Troy, New York -The ISIS Team investigated a home in Troy, New York, after receiving complaints about paranormal activity from the family currently residing in the single floor home.  Maria Martinez, 47, Joseph Bombadier, 46, and their 12 year-old daughter posed a number of complaints consistent with the typical complaints of paranormal activity.  The activity included items disappearing from a certain location and reappearing in another, seeing motion out of the corner of one’s eye, unexplained voices and talking, and difficulties with electronic appliances. According to Martinez, the voices that are frequently heard are difficult to understand and it sounds as if someone is conversing in another room when no one else is in the home.  Also, Martinez reports hearing someone calling her name when no one is at the location.  Martinez also complained that she has noticed an increase in headaches, and the experience of a negative attitude since she moved into the location 6 months ago.  The voices are most frequently heard at night.  Sometimes the client hears what sounds like furniture moving around unaided, and chairs being pulled out and pushed back in.

The interview revealed that the family renovated the property six months ago.  New floors, new kitchen cabinets, some bathroom renovations, and a laundry room was added to the location.  The house consists of a kitchen, one bathroom, a dining room, a laundry room, two bedrooms, and a home office.  Martinez states that “After the renovations the home was beautiful and I couldn’t wait to move in.  But that very same night we moved in I could not sleep and ever since that day I still do not feel as if I live here…I am just a guest; that’s what it feels like.”  Martinez further asserts that the home is “just a house,” and that she does not feel comfortable calling the location “home.” The client further states that since moving to the location she is finding it more and more difficult to associate with friends and family while in the home—a level of unexplained annoyance causes the client to desire isolation and Martinez stated that she felt more comfortable with associating with friends, family, and neighbors while not in the home under investigation.  Finally, Martinez also complained about the computer room of the home, the former sewing room, and stated that the room was always cold, even when the heater was on.

Martinez explained that a lot of items seemingly disappear, and are later found in unusual locations.  Martinez has found a spoon underneath the bathroom sink. Also, during renovations the client found an antique magnifying glass in the bathroom, lodged between the tub and the basin. She does not have any explanation as to whom the magnifying glass belongs to.

The family is Catholic but does not attend church. The home has not been investigated prior to our team’s arrival. The home has not been blessed. No prior media has been involved with the family or any of the events the family has experienced. While the family shows minimal interest in the paranormal (Joseph occasionally watches paranormal television shows), the family has not explored the paranormal, read any paranormal books, and has no existing interest in the occult.  No one in the family has been involved in amateur ghost hunting, no séances have been conducted and no Ouija board has ever been used at the location by the family.

Martinez reports that when people stay overnight in the home they have been prone to sleep walking.  Every incident involves the individual sleep walking from the bedroom to the entranceway of the kitchen and back to the bed again. Incidents of sleep-walking involve both adults in the home, the daughter, and the client’s grandchildren. Also, Maria has experienced insomnia on a repeated basis, and she often has difficulty remembering any dreams that she has.  Maria reports that their 12 year-old daughter has woken up with nightmares “soaking wet” with sweat, but the child cannot remember the dreams.

During the interview, a clock that had stop working and had not worked in months began to suddenly work again. Martinez, psychic artist Angela Kaufman, clairsentient Justyn Staley, and team history Robyn Evans heard a knock on the glass cabinet, just behind the client during the interview.  When the interview tape was reviewed, no knocking sound appeared on tape.

The client reports seeing shadows out of the corner of her eye, and unexplained fleeting movements. When she turns to look at the area of the house where movement is detected nothing is there.  At first, the fleeting movement was only seen in the computer room, and later the movement was spotted in other regions of the house, particularly in the kitchen.  Martinez described the fleeting shadow as one that looked like a man wearing a long coat out of the corner of her eye.  Shadows have also been seen in the dining room that look like several individuals standing in the dining room – the client would get up to inspect the dining room and would find no one there.

The client reports the unexplained scent of flowers that has been noted on several occasions in the computer room.  According to Martinez, the former owner named Annie, was sick for a long period of time, and later died in the hospital.  Martinez does not know of anyone who has died at the location.  Martinez explained that she often feels like she is being watched, and has seen a shadow like mist in the computer room.

Martinez has noted the failure of appliances.  Martinez had a clock on the wall that had not worked in months, but began working while we were conducting our investigation.

When we asked the client what she believed the source of her difficulties to be, she asserted that she felt that the former owner, Annie, did not want them at the location.

Photographs:

Nothing appeared in any of the photographs taken at the location.

Video:

Video camera was set up in the computer room where the client reported seeing the most movement.  Video revealed nothing of paranormal origin.

Temperature Fluctuations:

Two unexplained temperature fluctuations were noted:

Dining Room – 75.2 degrees Fahrenheit to 84.2 degrees Fahrenheit.
Kitchen – 75.5 to 103.2 to 143 Fahrenheit.

EMF Readings:

A high emf fluctuation was detected with an audio emf device in the bathroom of the location that had no physical origin that could be identified.

Electronic Voice Phenomena Captures:

Several EVPs were captured at the location.  Male, and female evps were captured. To listen to the evps associated with this case, visit our evp gallery at:

Clairsentient Experiences:

Clairsentient, Justyn Staley reported several experiences during the investigation.  Interestingly, Justyn sensed a high energy vibration coming from the display cabinet in the dining room, near the area that several investigators and the client later heard an unexplained knocking sound.  Justyn also picked up on a vibration in the living room which he described as “confused”—his notes reveal: “the feeling that something is confused here.”  Justyn also noted feeling “head pain” in the dining room, and in the living room, and he reported having no headaches prior to the entry of the location.

Angela Kaufman noted the sudden onset of nausea while in the dining room of the location. Like Justyn, Kaufman also notes experiencing head pain in the living room of the location.  Kaufman documented a feeling like a “rush of energy” while in the kitchen of the location, and Patricia reported an experience of dizziness in the same location.

Dowsing Rods:

The dowsing rods, used prior to the interview, both turned toward the glass cabinet where the client and several investigators later heard an unexplained rapping noise.  This occurred when the area was approached from the left and the right.  Also, the dowsing rods failed to work over a filled tub of water – our clairsentient noted that such an instance has never occurred before and that the dowsing rods worked properly when he approached the aquarium in the living room.

Psychic Sketches:

Psychic sketch artist Angela Kaufman sketched an image of an older woman that she sensed in the living room of the location.  This image is congruent with the client’s later interview report suggesting that she feels that the former homeowner, Annie, an older woman that died, remains in the home.

Other Experiences During Investigation

Psychic Artist Angela Kaufman reported seeing a bluish grey mist out of the corner of her eye when standing in the dining room of the location.  Later, Kaufman also reported seeing a black shadow in the kitchen out of the corner of her eye as well as a black shadow in the home office. No physical sources could be identified as the source of the shadows. Such experiences are congruent with experiences later reported by the client during the interview.

The laptop computer brought to the location experienced a remarkable battery drain.  The battery went from 46 percent charged to 17 percent charged in a period no longer than two minutes.  After the computer was plugged in, it failed to function properly. The computer had been tested prior to arrival and was fully functional.

An investigator’s camera shut off by itself six times without explanation.  The camera’s batteries were brand new and no battery drain was indicated.

Actions:

A cleansing was performed at the location.  The location was quiet for a approximately a week and activity began again.  Martinez called the team, extremely upset and drained because the activity had recommenced. Till this day, Martinez reports that the activity continues.

Conclusions:

While there are no photographs, our team captured EVPs, and several investigators had personal experiences while at the location.  Based on the EVPs, the positive temperature fluctuations, the positive EMF readings, and the experiences of our investigators that are congruent with the complaints later made by the client during the interview, our team has concluded that the location was active upon our arrival and according to the client, the home remains active.  We will continue to maintain contact with the client for further updates and to support the family in any way we can.
