THE GODDESS ISIS by Sathish Victor

Historically, Isis is well known as an Ancient Egyptian deity. She is the wife of Osirus, the most beloved God in Egyptian mythology, and the mother of Horus, the Sun Child. In Egyptian mythology She was the strong Woman behind two of the most well known deities of the Egyptian pantheon.

Shadows in Salem: An Examination of the Witch Trials in Salem Village, 1692 by Dayna Winters

Approximately three hundred years ago in a Puritan hamlet known as Salem Village located in the county of Essex, an entire community fell victim to an unscrupulous, and still unexplained, form of manipulation implemented by a group of adolescent girls. Several girls, ranging in age from nine to twenty-five vociferated accusations of witchcraft against both friends and adversaries alike (Hill). These allegations rapidly ripped through the God-fearing, colonial town, casting a portentous shadow over the community; a shadow that ultimately set a permanent place in the pages of history books for the Village of Salem, its inhabitants, their descendants, and the events that followed.

The Etymology of Magic by Dayna Winters

In the English language words undergo vast changes in the way they are written and spoken. Further, words often undergo significant changes in meaning. Like most words in the English language the Modern English word magic has undergone a number of changes from its first introduction into the English language. By looking at the etymology of the Modern English word magic and how the word changed from its Middle English to its Late Modern English spelling and meaning, it becomes possible to identify some of the historical events that affected how the word was written, as well as the affect that culture has had and continues to have on the word’s meaning. Finally, by examining the variants of the word magic it becomes possible to view language as a process of evolution: language evolves over time and will continue to evolve as it is used.

The Origins and Traditions of Vernal Equinox by Dayna Winters

Vernal Equinox is known as Spring Equinox, or Ostara and the pagan holiday is celebrated annually every March. Vernal Equinox is the day of the year that denotes the commencement of the spring season. In contrast, Candlemas is celebrated at the beginning of February and the holiday celebrates the first stirring of spring and the promise that the light will return. An equinox marks the time of year when the daytime and the nighttime equal each other in length; it is the moment in time just before the day or night dominates its counterpart, depending on the time of the year. During Vernal Equinox, the daylight will turn and begin to dominate the darkness once more – the hours of the day will increase and the length of the day will become longer. Conversely, Autumnal Equinox or Fall Equinox marks the time of year when the wheel of the year turns again, and the darkness begins to dominate the light. The daylight hours will be fewer and the nighttime will increase in length.

Abacomancy by Dayna Winters

Abacomancy is one of hundreds of divination techniques. The origins of the art of Abacomancy remain elusive but it has a history that has been traced as far back as the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. Abacomancy is the art of predicting the future through the use of dust. In ancient times, people used funerary ashes (belonging to the recently cremated). In contrast, contemporary diviners conduct Abacomancy with the use of earthen dust. The process of Abacomancy requires that the diviner attempts to predict future events by seeking out patterns in the dust.

Abracadabra by Dayna Winters

Abracadabra is derived from a Cabalistic charm (“Abracadabra”). Currently, abracadabra is used as a popular magical incantation and is often used by stage magicians to add an element of the mysterious to their performances; some stage magicians use the term in a satirical fashion (“Abracadabra”). In fact, when the word is used today, the meaning of the word is treated as magical gibberish, rendering the word powerless (“Abracadabra”). Abracadabra has previously been used as an incantation to heal: more specifically, abracadabra was used to heal fevers and most forms of inflammation.

Acultomancy by Dayna Winters

Acultomancy is a form of divination where needles are used to predict future events (“Acultomancy”). Acultomancy is a practice that is categorized as a form of Acutomancy (“Acultomancy”). Acutomancy is any type of divination that involves the use of sharp implements (“Acultomancy”). The word Acultomancy is a term that is derived from the Latin acûleus that literally means needle (“Acultomancy”). The attachment of the word –mancy in the term Acultomancy creates a word that literally means “divination by needle” (“-Mancy” Def. 1a.) Further, it is suggested that –mancy is derived from the Greek word manteia meaning divination (“Divination”). The art of Acultomancy is ancient, having survived since the earlier times when Gypsies utilized the practice to divine the future (“Acultomancy”). The Acutomancy practice is considered a form of sortilege, also known as cleormancy – the art of reading and interpreting the random outcomes of any form of lots (“Acultomancy”). A common practice since ancient times, the art of Acultomancy is a fairly easy practice.

Aeromancy by Dayna Winters

Acultomancy is a form of divination where needles are used to predict future events (“Acultomancy”). Aeromancy is a term that has its origins in the Greek language: aero literally means air and mancy is derived from the Greek manteia, which means divination (“Aeromancy”). Thus, Aeromancy is a type of divination that involves the practice of divining by air. Like other types of divination, Aeromancy is a form of prognostication where the diviner uses external tools to forecast future events or to get insight into a current situation. Aeromancy is also understood by several other terms, particularly by Anemoscopy and Nephelomancy (“Aeromancy Goddess Plan Pr Ntr Kmt”); aeromancy is a form of divination that is also identified in the Italian language as aeromanzia (“Aeromancy Goddess Plan Pr Ntr Kmt”). In the Oxford English Dictionary it is noted that the word Aeromancy is a term that was actually Aeromance in Old French, which was later changed to aéromancye, and aéromantie. In Middle Latin the word ?eromantia stood for what is now known as Aeromancy.

Autoscopy by Dayna Winters

Autoscopy refers to an event that takes place during the process of astral projection: when astral projection takes place, the subject that is travelling sometimes has the ability to glance back at his or her body and therefore views the physical essence from an external location (“Autoscopy”). In the Encyclopedia of Wicca and Witchcraft, Raven Grimassi describes the astral body as one that is a precise duplication of the physical body – a duplication that is a form of energy that can easily take the conscious mind along with it wherever it travels (Grimassi 21). Autoscopy and the out-of-body experience or the near death experience go hand-in-hand, but the term Autoscopy also refers to an event that involves a subject witnessing their own double (“Autoscopy”). Thus, autoscopy is an experience that can occur while the individual travels outside of the physical body, or while they are in the body witnessing a double of him or herself.

Of the Element of Air by Dayna Winters

The element of air has long been associated with the masculine gender, but it can be argued that air, being an ever-changing and adaptable element can be associated with either the masculine or the feminine gender. Some practitioners argue that air is masculine because it is associated with the yang in the yin-yang symbol: one equal to harmony. Since every element has a gender assigned to it, it is possible to argue that any element is adaptable to the opposing gender – all elements course through everything and are continually in the process of change.

Of the Element of Fire by Dayna Winters

The element of Fire is associated with the south. Like the element of air, fire is associated with the masculine gender and the yang in the yin-yang symbol. It can still be argued that elements are adaptable to the opposable gender and therefore can be associated with either the masculine or the feminine.

Of the Element of Water by Dayna Winters

Water is an element that is associated with the feminine and the “yin” of the yin-yang symbol. It is an element that is associated with the west in terms of cardinal direction, it primarily has moist, cold, heavy, and passive qualities, but water is extremely adaptable and changeable so it can also have warm, light and active qualities such as those found in a light rain fall. The color associated with water is blue, but the blue color can be of various degrees and water can also be associated with sea green and aquamarine as well. Later on in this writing, water is linked to the moon and the element is therefore also linked to the color silver.

Of the Element of Earth by Dayna Winters

The element of Earth is associated with the feminine, is linked to the yin in the yin-yang symbol, and is also coupled with the cardinal direction of the North. Earth energies are considered reactive and receptive and the properties of earth are cold, dry, heavy and passive. Earth is an element that can be associated with the colors that are various degrees of black, green, and brown. Earth is considered a nurturing element: one that is fertile and abundant, one that is silent but ever present. The earth has witnessed all of history and some practitioners believe that the very history of the world and all worldly events is recorded in the stones.

Religious Discrimination: The Writing on the Wall by Dayna Winters

On May 4th a Cohoes woman living on Sergeant Street was approached by her upstairs neighbor and asked if she had seen the writing on the wall in the alleyway of their apartment building. A few moments later, Patricia Gardner, the high Priestess of a Wiccan coven, The Dragon Warriors of ISIS and the cofounder of ISIS Paranormal Investigations, discovered that she was the victim of a religious hate crime.

The Haunting Prophecies of Nostradamus by Dayna Winters

Michel de Nostredame, whose Latinized name is Nostradamus, was born in St. Remy de Province, France, in the year 1503 (Baines2). World renowned as an incredible seer, physician, and astrologer, Nostradamus made many hauntingly accurate psychic predictions via the medium of poetic quatrains (Keyes5). Even in contemporary times the nine hundred and forty two quatrains that Nostradamus produced remain a subject of intense philosophical interest. These illustrious quatrains were published in 1555 in his book entitled The Centuries (Keyes5). Poetry often conceals hidden truths within its composition, and Nostradamus wrote his predictions in poetic quatrains to avoid being tried as a witch and to veil the accuracy of his predictions behind poetic verse. Hence, all of his predictions are written in four lined, rhyming quatrains.
