| Case file: March 12, 2005~Middletown, Orange County, New York~ ~Private Residence~ |
| The ISIS team set out on March 12, 2006 to investigate complaints made by a client living in Middletown, New York. The current owner surmises that the home was built around 1850. Six investigators visited the bi-level, Middletown home; A home that was owned by the same family for several generations. The current owners have resided at the location for thirty-three years. Case Manager, Tracey Pisano conducted an interview with the client while the rest of the team investigated the basement, and first and second floors of the home. Photographs were taken, emf readings were conducted, and the video was set up in the basement area of the home. Temperature readings were also sampled in an effort to document erratic temperature changes in the way of cold or hotspots. The interview with the client revealed that three individuals live in the home and one child visits the home on a regular basis. One of the former owners, related to the family, actually died at the location. The family's religious affiliations are Roman Catholic. One occupant revealed an interest in the occult and reported dabbling in the occult in the past. More than a passing fancy, the occupant studied and practice certain occult practices in the current location approximately fifteen years ago: practices that were negative in nature and that were introduced to him by a friend interested in Satanic practices. The client denies continued participation in the occult and states that once they learned about the negative consequences associated with their actions there were no further occult practices. Shortly after this acknowledgement, the two 35mm cameras in use failed to operate. As the interview continued the client revealed that individuals, other than those living in the household, had complained of the house as a place that felt oppressive. Our team can vouch for this fact; upon entry into the home all of the investigators could feel an immediate change in the atmosphere. No other paranormal group or clergy have been consulted by the client and the house has never been blessed (as far as the current owner knows). Further, the animals on the location, several dogs and cats, seem to watch something "unseen" at times, but other than that, have not been adversely affected. Some renovations have occurred on the location. The occupant revealed that the stairs had some renovation. Strange sounds have been heard in the house including unexplained footsteps, doors opening when no one is present, and unexplained creaking noises (not normal house settling noises). When one of the occupants was alone in the house, the unexplained sounds increased in frequency. The occupant also reports seeing a grayish mist on the stairs at night (kind of oval in shape), and unexplained shadows. An old photo own by the occupant that was hanging on the wall did reveal a similar phenomenon. The occupant did report that every room in the house is warm except for their own room. According to the client, after extensive attempts to insulate the room, the room still remains cold when all other rooms are comfortable. The client has complained of electrical problems-the television goes off by itself and one of the computers in the house repeatedly burns out. The computer has had four motherboards replaced since it has been owned. Some of the occupants are experiencing nightmares, the child has reported having dreams about "ghosts." One other occupant continues to have nightmares where they experience physical harm in some fashion: specifically about "car accidents," and "falling off of buildings." Photos revealed limited findings and they are all together questionable. The fact that we found several orbs and no other images that prove to be of paranormal origin leaves us to question whether or not the orbs are indicative of paranormal activity. In this case, we suspect the orbs to be dust captures, not revealing paranormal activity at all. Likewise, video of the basement revealed nothing out of the ordinary. This is not to say that there is no paranormal activity at the site, but it is to say that we have no photographic evidence to support such suspicions at this time. The client posed repeated complaints about the negativity of the basement. The client stated that people do not like to go down there and that when one is leaving the area they feel as if they are being pushed out of it. The team agrees that the basement seemed excessively oppressive but did not experience an urgency to leave the basement of the site while investigating nor did we feel pushed. We can also assert that the atmosphere became increasingly tense as we remained on the site, but this can be attributed to mundane causes and can therefore not be deemed as paranormal. Evp Findings: Several evps were captured at the location. All evps range from class A to class C and the voice of a woman, and a male evp were captured. One evp in particular stirred the interest of the team: when the evp was played forward it answers a question it poses backward. Forward the evp states, "she's real." The same evp played in reverse asks, "are they real?" Another evp was equally interesting, questioning, "Who asked you to be here…who?" The client also reported that the family recalls feeling a presence in the home, as if "someone or something was there" but that presence remained unidentifiable. The family reported that a number of relatives reported the same feeling and this feeling has been reported by several generations that have lived at the location. Furthermore, the client reports having heard strange, unexplained sounds coming from the attic. Some of our investigators had some "strong negative feelings" about an antique mirror that hung in the living room. When the client was questioned about the mirror in the home they conducted some research on it. The mirror was reported to be a family heirloom brought over from Germany. It was handed down from the father's side of the family, but its precise origins remain unknown at this time. Once owned by the family's grandmother and grandfather, it has landed in the hands of the current owners over time. The client remained in contact with the team after our initial investigation and reported further activity. The television was reported to turn on and off again without human assistance, toys in the home were reported playing sounds when no one was near them to activate them. The client further reports that they remain uncomfortable going into the basement of the home. Conclusions: At this time, although evps have been captured, with the lack of significant emf readings, or temperature changes and the lack of photographic evidence, our determination is inconclusive. Despite the fact that many members of our team share the belief in the solid legitimacy of psychic abilities and senses, we are not willing to base findings on our pyschic senses alone and we can neither argue assertively toward a haunting, nor can we completely deny the existence of activity. Due to the lack of photographic evidence associated with this case, no photos have been posted. Want to listen to the evps related to this case? Click here. |
