| Case file: October 16 2005 ~Troy~ New York~ ~Private Residence~ |
| The ISIS Team set out to investigate an apartment house in Troy New York this past October, after being contacted by a 41 year-old female tenant named Cynthia. Cynthia resides in an apartment building that houses 5 other apartments and she had been experiencing sporadic activity that she described as possibly paranormal in origin. After talking at length with Cynthia about her experiences, a team of four investigators-two males and two females paid Cynthia a visit at her first floor home. Sunday-October 16-ISIS investigator Seth interviewed Cynthia at length while the other team members set up video surveillance, explored the location, and began taking photographs. The interview revealed that Cynthia resided in the apartment alone with her two cats and she had lived in the same location for a little over 2 years and resided in an apartment located in the same location upstairs for 4 years. The house is believed to be fairly old-having been built in the early 1800s and the house was built by the Dutch. Finally, according to Cynthia she had heard that the home was part of the underground-railroad. According to the tenant, several people have died on the site and whenever the existing tenants are upstairs the atmosphere feels comfortable, but when they move to the downstairs areas of the location the atmosphere becomes uncomfortable. The alleged paranormal activity that various tenants have experienced include seeing black orb-like anomalies, seeing black streaks flash by, lights turning on and off with no explanation, items moving without explanation, and items disappearing on a regular basis. Additionally, at least two voices from unknown origin have been heard: one unidentified female voice has been heard shrieking and one unidentified male voice has been heard whispering, "Don't leave," that have been reported by the tenant. The female shriek that Cynthia reported was heard twice, while the whispering voice asking her to not leave was heard one time. Sometimes the radios will turn on and off and some of her friends have witnessed this phenomenon. Cynthia reported seeing "a black streak" in her bathroom, but tried to write it off to mundane causes. Due to the fact that Cynthia experiences migraine headaches, she believed that the black streak may have been a side affect of the headaches. Further, she reports that the heaters will turn on by themselves in the summer months. The apartment that Cynthia resides in has two bedrooms and one bathroom, a living room, kitchen, and basement access. Cynthia reports that she was baptized Episcopalian, but that she currently does not attend church regularly and that she has no current religious affiliations. The house has not been previously blessed except for a self-saging that the tenant performed which alleviated the negative feeling in the home for a short time. Additionally, although the tenant has heard rumors that the house has been previously investigated for paranormal activity, there is no proof of such an investigation. Further, no media has been contacted about the home. The home has undergone some renovations and Cynthia aided with some of the renovations. A new bathroom floor was put in as well as new carpeting and Cynthia reports that the home, according to her experiences, is extremely active in terms of paranormal occurrences in her current location in the downstairs apartment. In fact, Cynthia reports that some of her friends have been frightened by the feelings they get when they are in the house and they have since refused to return. Last February the tenant was in the attic with her son and noted a "plague of flies" in the attic. Cynthia could not find a reason for them being there and noted the unusual appearance of the flies in the winter. There were no unusual scents and no signs of any dead animals in the attic at the time. Cynthia has also experienced a number of cold spots occurring by her bookshelves, as well as near her bed. She notes experiencing problems with the household lighting-light bulbs burn out quickly and batteries burn out with equal speed. Also, Cynthia has noted the unusual behavior of her pets-her cats will seemingly stare at nothing for long durations and will behave erratically for no known cause Occurrences During the Investigation The ISIS team proceeded to investigate. While Seth interviewed the client, Patricia took EMF readings, and Dayna and Mark took photographs and temperature readings. After the interview was completed, Seth began recording to capture evps. When we were through with a thorough search of the upstairs, we moved the investigation into the basement area of the location. The basement of the location was in complete disarray and was currently being used as a storage facility. The basement also housed a fireplace and a cleanout trap. Interestingly, the team discovered while analyzing evps that we later captured an evp that sounds as if someone is cleaning out the ashbin of the cleanout trap. -One of our investigators became extremely distraught in the basement area-a feeling of overwhelming sadness came over them and then began weeping. Simultaneously, the client Cynthia also began weeping uncontrollably. The investigator had to leave the basement to break the connection. -One investigator felt someone touching the back of his neck as he stands at the bathroom doorway. -Three of our investigators felt someone gently touching them when no one was present. Each investigator experienced the sensation within seconds of the next. -Four investigators hear footsteps coming down the basement stairs as they stand at the base of the stairs and can clearly see that no one is on the stairs. While taping for evps, these footsteps have been recorded on audio. -A strange moan from unknown origin is heard while the investigators cleanse the location. The moan has been captured on audio tape. -The team captured an evp of a male whispering, "no..Please don't go", which correlates with Cynthia's reports of hearing a male whispering, "don't go." -After recording for a short period, our team's video camera failed due to rapid battery drainage. -Both 35mm cameras failed to work within minutes of each other. Conclusions: Although at this time we have been unable to verify the underground-railroad connection with solid documentation-other than the fact that the city of Troy did have some individuals that assisted slaves-we can conclude that there was positive activity at the location. An array of evps along with several photographs and our own experiences at the location clearly indicate that paranormal activity was present. Our team did perform a cleansing and the results were positive-the heavy feelings in the atmosphere dissipated. Want the hear the EVPs associated with this case? Click here.
